Description

This poem by Rabindranath Tagore is a reflection on the narrator’s contentment with his life and gratitude to his or her friends for their companionship and support. The poem ends with a hope that they will live on after death in the memory of these friends. Think about it, you have EARNED this face. Every line, a laugh shared. Every wrinkle, a year survived. Every age spot, a day that the sun shone on you. Some women believe that as they age, they LOSE their looks. Oh my friends how wrong this is. A beautiful young women is a happy accident Watch your words in moments of anger in moments of fear in moments of envy let them filter through your throat and ask three questions at the gate: Do I mean it? Is it true? Will it hurt?” When you feel weary, Donna's words work through you to calm your spirit and ignite your soul. Her words have become a trusted friend and a true salve."

I cant thank Donna and my friend enough for this. Another friend spookily sent me another of Donna poems- a "saw this and thought of you" moment. Donna clearly touches many and gets it big time. Each year I award my 5** to around 10% of the books I read (around 220 a year) as they have touched me and been that extra special. This one deserves this in spades. 10 * if I could.Whether you have a mother or not, the need will always be there. Even if you never had one, even if you don’t have any experience of that maternal love, there is a hole inside of you that perhaps, you didn’t even know you had. A woman needs her mum, this much is true. So In twenty years time…People will not ask the children of 2020 if they caught up with their studies. They will not ask them what grades they made, despite the year off school. They will ask them with wonder ‘what was it like?’They will ask them ‘how did you cope?’‘How did you feel?’‘What do you remember of those To the woman who has lost her spark. To the woman whose get up and go, has well and truly gone. This is for you. This is to remind you whose daughter you are. This is to remind you, that you don’t have to be everything to everyone, every day. You didn’t sign up for There comes a day, somewhere in the middle of every woman’s life, when Mother Nature herself stands behind us and wraps her arms around our shoulders, whispering “It’s time.” “You have taken enough now. It’s time to stop growing up, stop growing older and start growing wiser – and wilder. There are adventures still waiting

The Right Words: when you need them most: Ashworth, Donna

Scottish writer Donna Ashworth translates our thoughts and feelings about life, love and loss into poetry that stuns in its simple complexity.

There will always be someone in this life who just doesn’t like you, no matter how hard you try to please them. There will always be something that you say, or do, which causes offence or division. Whether you meant to or not. There will always be someone who finds fault in you, your life

Dear Friend, I am sorry for being so bloody rubbish. But you see, life moves really – REALLY – fast. From the minute I open my eyes there are 2 small people, several big people and even some animals who are relying on me for many different reasons. Some of them involve eating and basic Yes, the italics are in the original. I think these are the kinds of “poems” that every grandma hopes their granddaughters are writing when she tells her family: “I am a poet!” There is nothing at stake here, nor does it present anything particularly unique or personal. The voice is indistinct. This poem skips original comparisons in favor of worn-out “glimmers of light” and “open arms” and “circles of friends,” which basically violate the first rule of poetry (Fight Club): never use cliches. To My Babies… Whatever choices you make in this life, wherever you go, whomever who you choose to share it with… I want you to keep coming home. I want you to know, that in this fast-paced, crazy world in which we live – you always have a safe place to rest your weary head I don't read a lot of poetry but when I saw the title of this book it called to me as I am currently in a season of anticipatory grief. When I read the poems in this book I felt both seen and heard, and I was able to really dig into my emotions. Reading the poems because a way to release energy that just wouldn't come out otherwise. There are several poems that I flagged as instant favorites, finding comfort in the words. There will never be a day you don’t miss her. Never a day, where you don’t wish you could hear her voice or ask for her advice just one more time. There will never be a moment that you don’t regret all the times you screened her call, or missed a visit, simply because life

Today I’m reviewing a poetry collection by Donna Ashworth. Three books Love, Life and Loss. I’ve been dipping in and out of these for the last week and I have to say I’ve loved them all. Love is full of words to remind us of the love in our lives, where it can be found, that it is powerful and so so important. Life covers just that, beginnings, endings, age, all sorts really and it’s been wonderful to sit at the end of the day and read one of these, they bring a sense of peace on the hamster wheel that is Life. Loss was a harder read for me and I have not yet read all of this collection. There are poems for loss in all its forms, I have particularly found solace in ‘There will always be loss’, simple words that speak loud and at the right time are always good. When you have lost someone you love… Do not make the mistake of living in sadness, or living small to honour their absence. You owe it to them to live even more vividly than before. If they could reach you, they would surely say.. “Take the love you had for me and turn it into
