Description

Lamb meets with an old associate, Sam Chapman, and establishes that Donovan is employed by a private security firm. London's Slough House is where washed-up MI5 spies go to while away what's left of their failed careers. Dickie became aware of action: an announcement about buses had been made, and everyone was trying to cross the bridge. Ho and newcomer Shirley Dander retrieve CCTV footage from the bus and train, showing that the man Bough was following discreetly poisoned him and then took a further train to Stroud in The Cotswolds. Publication information is for the USA, and (unless stated otherwise) represents the first print edition.

Lamb meets with Taverner and convinces her to fund a fake ID and cover package for River, who he then meets and instructs to investigate the airfield and its owner, Duncan Tropper. He is the author of the Slough House espionage series (soon to be an Apple TV+ show starring Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas), four Oxford mysteries, and several standalone novels. Phil Davis as Richard Bough, aka Dickie Bow, a former MI5 officer, who is disgraced and long since retired.

By the time River arrives at Tunbridge Wells by plane with Kelly, David has already ambushed and killed Chernitsky with a shotgun. Back in the day when Europe was still struggling with the cold war syndrome Jackson Lamb was a force to be reckoned with. Dickie Bow might have tailed his last target, but Lamb and his crew of no-hopers are about to go live. As the agents dig into their fallen comrade's circumstances, they uncover a shadowy tangle of ancient Cold War secrets that seem to lead back to a man named Alexander Popov, who is either a Soviet bogeyman or the most dangerous man in the world. Back then, he’d had his unreliable moments: drunk, he’d mistaken nuns for whores and policemen for friends; sober, he’d made eye-contact with ex-wives, no recognition on his side, and only relief on theirs.

In Dead Lions, a bogeyman emerges from the Cold War ether while an ambitious suit from Regent's Park cultivates a Russian oligarch as a future asset. In June 2022, ahead of the second series premiere, the series was renewed for third and fourth series, which will be based on the next novels in the series, Real Tigers and Spook Street. This does invest the plot with a certain tension and with the exception of Lamb I am not sure I would put money on anyone surviving the next five books. Ten minutes later he emerged, and Dickie fell into step behind him: Dickie, who could follow a ferret through a wood let alone a leftover ghost.
